Green Wood Café | 14/09/17
We joined the Secret Severn Art Trail for DIS Meet-Up 003 at the Green Wood Café in Coalbrookdale. This is a lovely, peaceful place, tucked away, in the Ironbridge Gorge. The café itself is peaceful too, with excellent food and drinks and lovely staff.
Take a look at what happens at a DIS meet-up…
As we were at the Green Wood Café, this meet-up’s collaborative drawing was a tree. See it close-up in the video below.
…And here it is in full.
…We all drew our own “terrarium” environment, incorporating various personal things we would want to be surrounded by.
Three “willing” volunteers described pictures of unusual (but real) creatures to the rest of the group and we did our best to translate the descriptions into drawings. Some turned out surprisingly close to the real creatures!
The look of concentration…
Coffee, cake, company and drawing – the perfect recipe for a civilised social evening.
…Drawing in Shropshire is all about “drawing in” and “drawing together”… What better way to do both than with an old favourite! – “Exquisite Corpses” also known as “Consequences”.
If you’re not familiar, the way it works is: One person draws a hat or a head (without showing anyone) and they fold over the paper to the top of the neck, which the next person draws – the activity continues like this, moving in sections down the body, folding the paper and passing it on each time, until a figure is completed and the whole thing is unfolded to reveal a weird and wonderful apparition.
Spot the difference between these two ensemble photos…
As ever, many thanks to all who attended. It’s always a pleasure to see both new and returning faces. Thanks too, Jody-Lea et al at the Green Wood Café for your warm hospitality and enthusiasm in providing this special venue. A final thank you goes to Amanda and the Secret Severn Art Trail for including Drawing in Shropshire as part of the workshops schedule.
Look out for details of our next meet-up and we’ll see you then.
